Celebrating New Year's Day - Town Offices Closed

Uncle Billy's Day

The first weekend in June always brings the annual Uncle Billy’s Day festival. Commemorating the founding of the First Saturday Trade Lot by William G. “Uncle Billy” Lane, Sr., the festival celebrates its 61st year June 4 and 5. UBD features live music, crafts, food, children’s entertainment, an art and photography show, and much more in a family environment.

This year’s festival is being sponsored by the Town of Altavista in conjunction with the Altavista Chamber of Commerce, Altavista On Track, and the Altavista Volunteer Fire Company.  The 61st Festival will be a mix of the old and the new.

During the weekend, entertainment can be found on the Booker Building Main Stage in English Park. Saturday night’s activities conclude with a fireworks display that is second to none. Of course, all of the normal First Saturday Trade Lot activities are taking place as well.

Volunteers are always needed. Watch the Altavista Journal for more information on this year’s festival and how you can help.

First Saturday Trade Lot

First Saturday Trade Lot traces its roots almost to the founding of Altavista. Held the first Saturday of every month at the Trade Lot (Pittsylvania Avenue at 7th Street), you can find just about anything for sale or trade.

First Saturday Trade Lot is coordinated by the Altavista High School Band Boosters. Contact them for more information:

Altavista Farmer's Market

The Altavista Farmer’s Market continues bringing customers locally grown fruits, vegetables, flowers, and even baked goods and canned items. Official hours of operation are Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7:30 AM until Noon, April through October. You’re likely to find vendors there other days of the week as well. The Farmer’s Market is located at the Trade Lot. The purpose of the Altavista Farmers’ Market is to provide a bi-weekly marketplace for sales of agricultural products to interested buyers and to foster a family-friendly atmosphere of goodwill and activity that will benefit the entire community.

Farmers may rent spaces at the market for a nominal fee. Farmers must grow what is sold and not resell items produced elsewhere. For more detailed information, please contact:
